Glasgow for the cinephiles

Are you a big cinephile who won't miss any of the new releases? Are you looking for a nice place to take your date for a movie? Or do you want to take advantage of your free time to catch up with the classics or the Oscars nominees?

You're in the right place mate. Glasgow has plenty of opportunities to watch films, from the old times classics to the newest releases and a lot of events with film festivals.

If you live in the City Centre, you will probably hear about Cineworld Renfrew Street. This big cinema has a very wide programme, from the newest blockbusters to more independent releases. They offer an unlimited card for £17,90 per month. Considering the prices of the tickets in the UK (rather expensive), it is a great deal if you plan on going to the movies at least 2 or 3 a month. A great occasion to improve your film knowledge and to win all your trivia nights!

If you are looking for a more authentic experience, I would recommend Glasgow Film Theatre, on Rose Street. The programme is more "indie" and specialized than Cineworld and they often screen older movies in special or regular screenings. A big bonus: the charm and beauty of the place. Opened in 1939, this cinema has a long history and is now the main place for the Glasgow Film Festival.

Glasgow Film Theater has a very interesting card for people ages 15-25. The 15-25 card is completely and enables its holder to have the exclusive price of £5,50 for every screening. All you have to do is fill a form and prove your age, and you will even receive loyalty points on your card to get rewards!

Worth mentioning as well, the beautiful "The Grosvenor" cinema on Ashton Lane. We go there for the nice atmosphere and to enjoy the cafĂ© and "The Gardener", the adjoining restaurant.

And finally, don't miss the Glasgow Film Festival! Started in 2005, the festival has become one of the biggest film festival in the UK. The festival takes places in multiple spots in Glasgow (especially for the special events!) but Glasgow Film Theatre remains home to most of the screenings -along with the CCA, Cineworld and Everyman.

The 2019 edition of the festival will take place starting from next week already! From February 20th to March 3rd, Glasgow will live for the cinema for 12 days with screenings, premieres, master classes and special events -there is something for everyone!

Jonah Hill's Mid 90s will be the opening film and Beats, directed by Brian Welsh, will be the closing gala. The festival will also offer special screenings of Fight Club, Alien and Matrix as part of their special events program, in very nice places in Glasgow. The occasion to (re)discover those big classics and have fun in a great atmosphere!

Like every year, the festival will screen many premieres and many filmmakers will be here for film presentations and Q&A with the audience.
